Report of Sergeant Bayford
Spelling and grammar is as on the original typed report. (I believe it was the 12th Bn of the Middlesex Rgt. in the line at that time.)
To the O.C. Commanding the 7th Beds. Regiment
----------------------------
Recommendation.
13908, Private E.A. COX, Stretcher Bearer.
On the 15th/3/17 while the attack was held up by heavy machine-gun and shell fire, he proceeded to the front line, bandaging and dressing wounded men, bringing them in, regardless of danger, upon his back. Whilst making one of these journeys, a wounded man he was carrying received another wound. After tending all the men of the Beds Regt. he could find, he again went forward, still under heavy fire, and did good work among the Middx. Regt. After attending and bringing in Machine Gunners, he returned for their drums of Amo returning them safely to the guns. This is not the only occasion that his zeal and devotion to duty under very adverse circumstances has been noticed and praised by men witnessing same.
